Five Increase Questions
What effect does your faith have on your lifestyle?
There’s no easy way to live life in the NFL. I try to just stay connected to God and His Word. The more you surround yourself in the Word and with those who are like-minded, the stronger your faith in Him will be. It is challenging but that’s what makes your faith authentic; It’s not easy but it’s about trusting the promises of God.
Describe how your Journey with Christ began.
It’s been a journey of faith for me. I grew up going to church with my parents and always knew about Christ and the Bible. But my faith definitely looks different now then it did when I was 21 and it looked different then from when I was 12. Life experience has taught me a lot and brought me closer to Christ. This life is about living above reproach and trusting God. But on this Christian journey, which we will, Christ is there for us. That is why He died for us and saves us from ourselves. I try to live life to the fullest, knowing that in Christ I have salvation and freedom to live for His glory.
Who have been the mentors in your life? How did God bring these people into your life?
There have been many mentors in my life at different stages of my life. Growing up, my parents were amazing role models for me. During my time on the New York Jets, Chaplain Adam Burt, Pastor Shino Prater, as well as two of my former teammates: Jason Smith and Brad Smith have all been really influential in my walk with Christ. I also have a great friend, Kai Parham, a college teammate at the University of Virginia. He is on fire for Christ and that has always been contagious to all those around him. You need people like that around you; they live a life that is visibly different and it makes you stop and think about who you are. Looking at these guys, I’m challenged to live a better life myself.
What does the Increase of Christ mean to you?
Sometimes you can see God very tangibly, knowing that God is in that moment. Other times you are just living wondering, what is my purpose. But God has given you everything that you need; the tools He gives are scattered around us and we need to be looking out for them and seeking them. God says, “seek and you will find.” If we look for these tools that God has provided for us, we will have everything that we need. God has a plan, you’re not always going to understand what that is but we need to have faith to take one day at a time and trust Him. He is more than enough. It’s about God taking our lives and working His will through us. It’s not our will but His.
What is your life verse and why?
