Trust the Process – Don Davis

It was June of 2008 when I was hired as Director of NFL Programs for The Increase. I had attended seven conferences up until that point and I had tons of ideas on changes that I wanted to make. I still remember one of my first meetings with the President, Norm Evans. I told him all of my ideas and his response was, “Don, slow down. You’ve got to understand; life is all about all process.” I used to hate those words! See, I interpreted his “process” as an unwillingness to embrace all my ideas. What I didn’t understand was that I was being impetuous and had given no thought to exactly how the changes I was proposing would impact the entire organization.
In Genesis 12 we are introduced to Abram, whose name God changed to Abraham. He and his wife Sarah were advanced in years when God promised them a son. After years of waiting for the fulfillment of this promise, they got impatient in the process and decided they wanted to help God out (Genesis 18). You and I make the same mistake when we think that we know better than God. The Bible is very clear in showing us that God knows best.
“‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.’” —Isaiah 55:8-9
If you are tempted to “help God out” because you are waiting for the fulfillment of a dream or vision, I encourage you to meditate on God’s Word. Galatians 6:9 tells us:
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Or in other words, trust the process. You see, God not only has a purpose for our lives (Psalm 139), He also has a plan to achieve His purposes (Jeremiah 29:11). Our job is simply to trust in the process. (Proverbs 3:5)
My prayer is that you will not grow weary and give up if you haven’t experienced the manifestation of your dreams, but continue to trust that God has a purpose and a plan for your life that can only be fulfilled by going through the process of waiting.
