Former Major League Baseball player Brett Carroll always strived to be the best player on his team. In high school, when he didn’t get the award that he thought he deserved, he left in anger.
In that moment of disappointment, Brett experienced God speaking to Him in a way that he never had before.
“In that moment of pain, I felt the Lord saying to me, ‘This is where I’m leading you,’” remembers Brett.
Brett went on to play college ball at Middle Tennessee State University where he expected to shine. When that didn’t happen, he was humbled yet again.
During his junior year, after playing with MTSU and growing stronger as a player, Brett was drafted by the Florida Marlins. A few years later, in 2007, he was called up to the Big Leagues.
“To know that, whatever happens after that…” Brett says through tears as his recalls his dreams beginning to take shape, “I was going to be able to walk on a major league field.”
Brett shares how he experienced the ups and downs of playing professional, including injuries, setbacks, trades, victories, and defeats. Eventually, he learned not to place his hope on his performance because he found something much greater to trust in.
“I became really good at saying, ‘I don’t have a clue how this all is going to unfold,’” says Brett. “‘God’s Sovereign through it all.’”
