We’ve heard from professional athletes about what Mother’s Day means to them and how their wives, mothers, and grandmothers have made an impact on their lives.
MLB left fielder Matt Holliday shared about his love and appreciation for his wife, Leslee:
“Leslee amazes me daily, in addition to raising our four kids, she is taking online theology classes, learning and growing deeper in her faith constantly. Because of this, she is continually teaching me and our kids more about God and the truth of the Gospel as well. Her dedication to Jesus Christ, pursuing a deeper knowledge and love for Him, really impresses and inspires me to do the same. She really is quite the woman, wife, and mother.”
NFL linebacker Demario Davis shared how his mother has showed Christ’s sacrificial love to him in a way only a mother can:
“My mom has always been a servant first. She continues to regularly speak truth in my life through the Word of God and through her loving actions. Not only has she been a mom to me but she’s taken in so many others who need the love and guidance of a Godly woman.”
Former MLB pitcher Dave Dravecky looked back at his childhood years to see how his mother gave up her dreams to support and provide for him and his five brothers first.
“Mom was always supportive and encouraging to each one of us with all the things we did as kids. That was huge for me as I was pursuing my career in baseball. My parents weren’t trying to live a dream through me, they were simply there to support me. That kind of love is powerful.”
NFL tight end Benjamin Watson shared how his wife portrays Christ’s strength and love to him and their five children daily:
“Often I sit in amazement of Kirsten—the wife and mother that she is. She is always staying on top of the things she does as a mother, taking care of me and our five children. Whether she is cooking a meal for us, homeschooling the kids, taking someone through violin lessons, taking care of the house, or sharing God’s Word with us, she never stops serving.”
We were also able to sit down with Michi Marshall, wife of NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who shared with us what it means for her to be a godly mother to their twins. Here’s what she had to say:
“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.” —Proverbs 31:10-12
