A Fresh Start – Luke Weaver

On a new team, with a fresh new start to the new season, I want to be known as a guy who brings everything to the table. I want to help my team as much as I can on the field, but I also want to build relationships and feed into my teammates off the field. Through my actions and words, I hope to show God’s light and love to those around me. This is my priority this year. This is my focus.
There will always be times when the competitiveness in baseball threatens to get the best of you. But I hope that when guys look at me, even when I make mistakes, they see that there is more to me than baseball.
One thing I’ve learned this past year is just how quickly things can get out of hand. They, as well as the stresses of work, can easily cause us to let our minds stray. I have to weigh in my mind what I should be doing and what I should allow to come into my head. It’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to carry more weight on your shoulders than you can handle, instead of relying on God’s strength. I want to enjoy every day God gives me and not allow the pressures of this game — the stats, the worries, the competition — get the best of me. I can relax knowing God is in control.
The trade presents a fresh start for me, not only in my career, but in my spiritual game as well. I can go back to where I know God wants me to be, and I know my relationship with Him can always be stronger. Physically and mentally, I want to do the work I need to in order to maximize the glory I can bring to God this year.
If I stay in my element, not trying to be someone I’m not, I know I’m pleasing God. He created me to be me. Knowing this, I will do every little thing possible to play as hard as I can on the field and impact others off the field — all for His glory.
