Many have heard the name of Dave Dravecky and the “Pitch heard around the world.” For those of you who don’t, Dave battled with an injured arm then cancer, eventually leading to the amputation of his arm, ending his career in the MLB. When his Pitching career came to an end, Dave stood on a different platform from the mound; he became a motivational speaker and author.
“But as I stood on the platform,” remembers Dave, “and spoke to thousands of people, there was something dark inside of me that was beginning to demand light.”
Dave was traveling to speak to thousands of fans and players, sharing his story of hope and perseverance. But while he was speaking to many about his trust in God. He was being weighed down by a myriad of emotions that he felt he couldn’t control. On the outside he was a picture of true steadfastness and faith, on the inside, he was crying out for help.
Not accustomed to the being the one who is asking for help himself, Dave found himself completely humbled in a way he never had been before. Many spoke up to offer him solutions to solve his emotional turmoil. There were countless suggested game plans for self-help.
“My real friends carried me into the healing arms of Christ and let Him do the healing,” Dave recalls with gratitude in his voice. “They were willing to carry me without judgment or critique, into the presence of Jesus. And in His presence, I experienced the deepest and truest healing imaginable. I experienced grace.”
With a humble and grateful heart, Dave has allowed God to heal his body, heart and mind from many hardships. He now devotes his time and resources to share that message of grace and love with others.
“He (the Lord) said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Corinthians 12.9
