Increase Q&A with Shaun Murray

We chatted with professional wakeboarder Shaun Murray and asked about some of his favorite things:
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” — Proverbs 16:3.
This is a great anchor for my life that I’ve written at the end of my prayer list. It seems like a selfish thing, wanting your plans to succeed, but I don’t think that’s the message here. It has to do with aligning our hearts and minds with God’s so He can really allow our days to thrive. This helps me keep my perspective on Him.
The ones I land. Sometimes when I get on the water, I just love dragging my hands on the glassy surface. It’s a cool moment when you can see a perfect reflection on the lake first thing in the morning. I also really love doing the more technical tricks — the ones where you have to pass the handle in front of you multiple times before you land. Then other times, I just enjoy doing very little tricks in the air, simply enjoying the feeling of flying.
Hardest Trick to Master:
The S-Bend — a raley (where the rider’s board is thrown out behind them “Superman” style) with an overhead backside 360. This is the one trick that took me 15 years to master. But finally I did. It still gives me butterflies in my stomach when I think about doing it.
Favorite Place to Wakeboard:
Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas. I remember driving down to this beautiful, remote lake in the middle of nowhere when I was younger. Here you can wakeboard for probably an hour, crossing the Missouri/Arkansas border, while passing maybe one other boat.
