St. Louis Cardinals Pitcher, Adam Wainwright always knew he wanted to be a pro baseball player. When he entered the big leagues he realized that he had reached his life long goal.
“The game has given me my dream come true,” Adam recognizes. “It’s given me a lot of different things that are treated as very cool in the world’s eyes. I don’t treat that lightly; I want to get the most out of it. It’s been given to me, so I want to give back. I want to share that wealth.”
“When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.” – Luke 12.48
Adam is not focused on how many games that he wins or how many championships he reaches, his goal is fixed on what sort of man he is.
“I think that is enhanced and bettered,” says Adam, “because of my belief in Jesus.”
Through his understanding of who Jesus is and what’s He’s done for him, Adam has found fulfillment in living his life for the glory of God instead of his own glory.
“There’s no reason to not be selfish unless you understand grace,” Adam continues.
There have been seasons of ups and downs in Adam’s career in baseball. Through it all, he has chosen to give the glory to God.
“I always know that where I’m pulling my strength from is not from a man’s level,” Adam says with conviction, “It’s from something much greater, much higher, in the form of Jesus Christ.”
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” -Psalm 23.1-3
