Matt Carpenter is a third baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals
Baseball always came naturally for St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter. He always expected to make it to the Major Leagues after college, but it didn’t happen right away.
During his junior year at Texas Christian University, Matt tore a ligament in his arm and had to undergo Tommy John surgery.
“I’m hurt, and I’m watching all my teammates and guys that I played with growing up and people that I recruited with, and they go on and get drafted,” remembers Matt, “and here I am, not in the best shape of my life—hurt and on the shelf.”
It was at that time that he decided he needed to make some greater changes in his life.
